Hi there, pals! We’ve got an exquisite field this week together with tender inexperienced beans! These beans are all hand-harvested one after the other. It is a time consuming harvest, however completely price it. Do not overcook them, all they want is a mild steam. Topped easy with butter and salt & pepper, they’re divine.
Replace from the farm fields! Final week’s corn was less than our high quality requirements, and we apologize. Corn is a kind of tough crops for us to high quality management, as we won’t open every ear. We do spot checks, nevertheless it’s clear that a lot of you obtained corn with points. We will likely be distributing an additional week of corn to make up for it. On a constructive word, the planting harvested for this week’s bins is a lot better! Please be in contact if something in your field is less than our top quality requirements and we are going to make it proper.
Warmly,
Maggie & Matt

What’s in season this week?
Napa Cabbage
This week brings napa cabbage — the tender, candy, crinkly-leafed member of the cabbage household. Its delicate texture makes it much more versatile than its sturdier cousins: the leaves are great uncooked in a crunchy salad with a sesame-ginger dressing, important in a fast selfmade kimchi, or sliced into ribbons for a stir-fry the place they wilt in seconds. Storage: refrigerate entire in an hermetic bag within the crisper drawer, the place it’s going to preserve for 2 weeks or extra.
Swiss Chard
These jewel-toned stems are as scrumptious as they’re lovely. Swiss chard is 2 greens in a single: sauté the chopped stems first with garlic and olive oil, then add the leaves, which cook dinner down like spinach in a few minutes. End with a squeeze of lemon and a bathe of parmesan, or fold right into a frittata with these purple onions for an ideal summer season supper. Chard is a dietary powerhouse — distinctive quantities of nutritional vitamins Okay and A plus magnesium. Storage: refrigerate unwashed in an hermetic bag and use inside 5 days.
Crimson Batavian Lettuce
Certainly one of our favourite summer season lettuces — Batavians are bred to remain crisp and candy even in August warmth! Storage: refrigerate in an hermetic bag within the crisper drawer and revel in inside per week.
Inexperienced Beans
Recent-picked, hand harvested inexperienced beans! Blanch them briefly and toss with butter and salt, or olive oil, lemon, and toasted almonds; blister them in a screaming-hot skillet till charred and simply tender; or serve them chilly in a salad with corn and a mustard French dressing. Storage: refrigerate unwashed in a plastic bag and use inside 3-5 days.
Carrots
Harvested with out tops this week! Candy summer season carrots, crisp and excellent for the season’s no-cook meals. Eat them straight from the fridge with hummus, shave them into ribbons for salads, or quick-pickle them with a bit vinegar and sugar for sandwiches and bowls. Storage: Refrigerate in a plastic bag for as much as two weeks.
Candy Corn
This weeks brings a brand new planting! Storage: preserve within the husk within the fridge and eat as quickly as doable; the sweetness fades day-to-day.
“Crimson Lengthy of Tropia” Heirloom Onions
These elegant, elongated purple onions are milder and sweeter than storage onions. Slice them into skinny rings for salads and sandwiches, pickle them in purple wine vinegar for a vivid pink condiment that improves every little thing, or halve them lengthwise and grill till delicate and caramelized. Storage: contemporary onions like these are greatest refrigerated and used inside a few weeks.
Zucchini
August is zucchini’s second, and we’re leaning in. Grill planks till charred, grate it into fritters, shave it uncooked into ribbon salads with lemon and parmesan, or sauté with corn and onions for succotash. And when the harvest outpaces you, zucchini bread by no means fails. Enjoyable truth from the sphere: at peak season, a zucchini can develop one to 2 inches per day — which is why we choose each single morning. Storage: refrigerate unwashed in a plastic bag for as much as per week.
Cucumber
The important summer season refresher. Slice into ice water with mint on a scorching afternoon, toss with rice vinegar and a pinch of sugar for a fast pickle, or mix with yogurt and garlic for a beautiful dip. Storage: refrigerate within the crisper drawer and use inside per week.
