Natural producers and processors should observe strict requirements to grow to be licensed—however who decides what’s and isn’t allowed on natural farms? Not your certifier! The USDA Nationwide Natural Program (NOP), in session with the Nationwide Natural Requirements Board (NOSB), units these guidelines.
In 2024, the Nationwide Natural Coalition (NOC) hosted a Seeds of Success digital session for natural and transitioning farmers, the place a panel of farmers and advocates demystified the NOSB. Panelists defined the Board’s position in shaping natural requirements, how choices are made, and the way written and oral feedback can affect outcomes.
Panelists included Steve Ela (Former NOSB Chair, NOC NOSB Specialist, Ela Household Farms, CO), Harriet Behar (Former NOSB Chair, NOC Advisor, OFA Farmer Companies Marketing consultant, Candy Springs Farm, WI), and Amy Bruch (Present NOSB Vice Chair, Cyclone Farms, NE).
