In Marseille, a uncommon and symbolic occasion is capturing imaginations all through the town: the full restoration of the basilica Notre-Dame de la Garde, the religious and architectural icon recognized to locals as “La Bonne Mère.” The gilding of the statue of the Virgin and Little one—by no means redone in over 35 years—is the centerpiece of this challenge.
