macos – Understanding certificates and app ‘expiry’

I’ve some aged, unsupported Mac apps, and I adopted the steps in this Stack Overflow article to retrieve their code-signed certificates and examine their expiry dates.

This copied 3 certificates to a brand new location. The primary (“Developer ID”) has an expiry date of 25 February, 2022 (which has handed); but the app nonetheless launches with out criticism.

The second (“Developer ID Certification Authority”) is dated 1st Feb 2027; and the third is Apple’s root certificates, as a result of expire 9 February 2035.

My questions are:

Why did not the app cease working (or why did the OS not flag any subject) in 2022?

Will it cease working in both 2027 or 2035 (all different issues being equal), with out some form of guide intervention, corresponding to ad-hoc native signing?
