Bezos Earth Fund appoints former Amazon SVP as its new chief


A former Amazon senior vp who oversaw the corporate’s Alexa groups is taking the helm on the Bezos Earth Fund, a $10 billion local weather philanthropy established by his outdated boss.

Tom Taylor introduced the transfer this week, saying he was thrilled to “lead with the daring mandate to invent our manner out of Earth’s environmental challenges with a mix of long-term pondering, technical curiosity and wonderful execution.”

Taylor was a 23-year Amazon veteran when he left in 2023. He joined the corporate as a director of operations for success facilities and went on to supervise 10,000 engineers, product leaders and different staff engaged on the Alexa good speaker. On leaving his function, Taylor up to date his LinkedIn job title to “Relaxed” and his employer to “@Ease.” 

Taylor succeeds Andrew Steer, who stepped down in February. “For a while, I’ve been hoping to get again to my roots, specializing in worldwide growth and the interplay of the setting, finance and the financial system,” Steer wrote on the time. His earlier function was president and CEO of the World Assets Institute.

The Bezos Earth Fund has emerged as a serious participant in local weather philanthropy because it was established in 2020 with the mission to provide away $10 billion of Jeff Bezos’ fortune. The fund is famous for its work on AI and conservation, amongst different areas. It’s additionally attracted criticism from environmental teams for its advocacy for carbon markets.
