ASTM Worldwide & ASTRO America companion to advance requirements for large-scale additive manufacturing

ASTM Worldwide’s Additive Manufacturing Middle of Excellence (AM CoE) has established a strategic collaboration with the Utilized Science & Expertise Analysis Group (ASTRO) of America.

The joint initiative will deal with the event and deployment of Additive Friction Stir Deposition (AFSD) by advancing requirements, high quality infrastructure, and greatest practices for large-scale AM applied sciences.

Titled “Development of Course of, Supplies, Functions, and Take a look at and Analysis for Massive-Scale Additive Manufacturing,” the challenge commenced in December 2024 and can run till December 2027. It will likely be delivered in 5 phases, with every part focusing on particular technical and strategic deliverables.

By means of the collaboration, ASTM AM CoE will host stakeholder and worth chain workshops, develop built-in management plans throughout tools, facility, feedstock, and course of dimensions, and implement a complete High quality Administration System (QMS) for Characterisation and Metrology (C&M).

The challenge can even provoke the event of requirements for novel Non-Harmful Analysis (NDE) strategies, QMS workflows, and course of specs associated to AFSD.  The companions hope this method will yield important developments in materials qualification, course of management, and creating novel NDE strategies to improve manufacturing readiness and manufacturing high quality.

“This collaboration displays our continued dedication to accelerating the economic readiness of rising AM applied sciences via requirements, coaching, and utilized R&D,” mentioned Dr. Mohsen Seifi, ASTM’s vp of worldwide superior manufacturing packages. “By combining ASTM’s AM CoE experience with ASTRO’s innovation management, we’re enabling a extra sturdy and scalable future for large-scale additive manufacturing.”

“ASTRO America’s mission is to bridge superior science and utilized applied sciences and innovation to strengthen U.S. manufacturing,” mentioned Jason Gorey, government director of ASTRO America. “Working with ASTM’s AM CoE ensures we’re not solely advancing new applied sciences like AFSD, however doing so with the rigorous high quality frameworks wanted for long-term success.”

ASTM’s AM CoE have exhibited at RAPID + TCT this week from Sales space #3045
