Honeywell and Redwire advance collaboration on quantum-secured communications

Honeywell has introduced a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that advances a European Area Company-backed initiative to develop new quantum-secured satellite tv for pc communication methods.

The MOU, signed with Redwire Company, is the newest step below the Quantum Key Distribution Satellite tv for pc consortium (QKDSat), which was launched in 2024 and is being led by Honeywell. It should allow the 2 firms to discover alternatives to mature and develop using quantum key distribution know-how as a part of the consortium, which operates below the European Area Company’s QKDSat Public Personal Partnership.

The intention is to mix Redwire’s quantum platform know-how with Honeywell’s quantum optical payload, creating a completely practical payload and platform by mid-2026. The collaboration goals to advance quantum-secured applied sciences that might assist governments and defence businesses defend delicate data from rising cyber and quantum threats, whereas additionally accelerating subsequent era quantum key distribution providers for business prospects.

The QKDSat challenge brings collectively firms from ESA Member States together with Belgium, Austria, Canada, Czechia and the UK to develop an ultra-secure telecommunications satellite tv for pc that ensures the safe and personal trade of delicate data.

“The defence and area communications landscapes are evolving quickly, with safety and resiliency now the highest precedence for governments and demanding industries,” stated Lisa Napolitano, the vp and normal supervisor, of area at Honeywell Aerospace Applied sciences. “By combining Honeywell’s quantum optical payload know-how and expertise in satellite tv for pc communications with Redwire’s experience in agile platforms and onboard quantum computing, we’re bringing the promise of quantum-secured communications nearer to actuality.”

Along with civil and defence-related purposes, Honeywell and Redwire plan to show area and ground-based quantum communications capabilities for business organisations reminiscent of monetary establishments, telecommunications suppliers and demanding infrastructure firms that generate massive volumes of confidential information.

“Quantum-enabled telecommunications might be a gamechanger for presidency businesses and the non-public sector, and our collaboration with Honeywell is concentrated on delivering leading edge innovation to mitigate more and more subtle threats,” stated Marc Dielissen, the overall supervisor of Redwire Area Belgium. “Working along with ESA, the world-class group of Redwire and Honeywell leverages the energy of Public-Personal Partnerships to provoke a quantum-secure area community that might set a brand new normal for safe world communications.”
