With the Senate Farm Invoice now taking form and USDA restructuring shifting ahead, there’s a lot at stake for natural farmers and researchers proper now.
OFRF stays on the frontlines of natural analysis coverage in Washington, D.C. On April thirtieth, the Home of Representatives handed its model of the Farm Invoice. We printed a weblog put up shortly after explaining the victories for natural analysis that we fought for, together with reauthorization of the Natural Agriculture Analysis and Extension Initiative (OREI) and the first-time authorization of the Natural Transitions Program (ORG), which might be renamed the Researching the Transition to Natural Program (RTOP).
With eyes now on the Senate, we spearheaded a coalition letter co-led by the Natural Farmers Affiliation, Natural Commerce Affiliation, Worldwide Contemporary Produce Affiliation, and the Nationwide Natural Coalition, urging the Senate to extend funding for OREI and RTOP in its model of the Farm Invoice. This was one of many strongest letters we’ve ever spearheaded, bringing collectively untraditional natural allies from the specialty crop, livestock, and analysis communities to make the case that elevated funding for each applications is important to assembly the analysis calls for of a quickly rising natural market.
Lastly, we proceed to watch the proposed restructuring of USDA’s analysis, schooling, and economics companies and the potential closure of the Beltsville Agriculture Analysis Station. We’re deeply involved about this plan and are working with the broader agricultural analysis group to stop and mitigate its worst impacts.
There are two methods you’ll be able to assist proper now—and each are free and take lower than a minute. Inform Congress to cease the USDA restructuring plan, and inform your Senator to assist natural analysis within the Farm Invoice. Your voice issues.
